I just spent the last 2 hours reading through Carlos Miller’s homepage.

Maybe you should too. At least every photographer should because this guy’s fighting for our rights to document (photograph and videotape) what happens around us. You think you could just carry around your camera and take photos in public places – yeah, so did I – but things have changend, at least in London. Have a look at Nick Turpin’s Video on this topic:

Here’s what David Hobby from strobist.com wrote on this topic:

“Recent laws enacted in the UK pretty much equate just having a camera with being a terrorist. Literally, if you are taking pictures on the street in London you can be searched and/or arrested if an officer “reasonably suspects” you of, well anything.

How’s that for a first-world free and open society?”

I really hope, that I’m the only one that has completely missed out on the Grant – Shooting / Execution earlier this year. Because of things like this, it’s mandatory that laws like the one recently passed in the United Kingdom can NOT be accepted. It’s important for every single one of us as an individual person and aswell for us as a society, that we can forge our opinions based on what our eyes see and not on what informations we are provided. In case of the Oscar Grant murder, the Video which was filmed out of the train with a normal point and shoot or maybe even a mobile camera, helped to raise awareness, spread the word and convince people that we must not be restricted by reckless laws.
